What is azkar in Islam?

There are a lot of azkar ideas but first, let us know that it literally means “remembrance” OR “mention” and sometimes it is written as “Dhikr”. They are a group of prayers or phrases repeated by Muslims. This is a devotional action that we do to be closer to Allah or to ask him something. Muslims can say azkar by their tongue only or they also may count them using their fingers or through the beads. Azkar sometimes considers a type of glorification to Allah; we have azkar that involves a kind of praising Allah. Mostly, azkar are names of Allah or duaa taken from the Holy Quran or Muhammad’s sayings (hadith). In Islam, we use azkar to call Allah and remember his existence all the time.

What are the benefits of azkar?

Surah Al-Munafiqun: “O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that – then those are the losers. (9)”

Of course, remembering your creator by your heart and tongue has many benefits. In both cases, either in need or just thank Allah for the countless gifts he sent for you, you will get rewards. Allah promised us in His Holy Book that he will bless those who remember him all the time. Azkar is one of those good deeds that increase our Thawab and our chance to win Jannah. There are plenty of benefits of azkar such as:

  • It makes us closer to Allah and this lets us watch and take care of our deeds to avoid making faults.
  • This brings us prosperity in our life because Allah loves who remembers him in his prayers and deeds.
  •  Azkar cleans up the heart and fills it with inner peace, joy, and happiness.
  • It creates a protective aura around the Muslims when you continue saying them.
  • Being away from azkar brings the feeling of dullness and depression.
  • This removes the hardness of the heart, in contrast, you will be more behaved and humble.
  • It strengthens your Iman and takes off any fear from your heart because all the time you feel the presence of Allah.
  • Azkar makes everything around us including our tongues and hearts record and speak for us on the day of judgment.
