“The Quran is a proof for you or against you.” Have you ever asked yourself about the meaning of this sentence? Why do we, the Muslims, recite the Holy Qur’an and what will we gain from its recitation?
The Holy Qur’an, also known as the Quran with the Arabic pronunciation (alqur’aːn) is the central religious text of Islam believed by Muslims to be a revelation from Allah to the last prophet, Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) through his angel Gabriel. It is organized in 114 chapters (surah) and each chapter consists of verses (ayat).For Muslims, following the principles of the religion is associated with comfort, pleasure and confidence, especially when they are disturbed. Allah (the Almighty) said in the Holy Qur’an “Remembrance of Allah certainly brings comfort to all hearts“(13:28). In this article, we will reflect upon some benefits of reciting the Holy Qur’an.
- The Holy Qur’an has endless wonders in man’s life.
The Qur’an is the primary Islamic scripture that one should keep reciting and memorizing to win in his life. In the earthy life, everyone needs guidance in all aspects whether in their education, work, economic or social aspects, etc. and the timeless guidance in man’s life is the Holy Qur’an in which one can find answers for whatever he wants.
The benefit of reciting the Holy Qur’an in man’s life was made clear by Prophet Muhammad ( Peace be upon Him); Whoever reads it learns the knowledge of the earlier and the later generations, Whoever speaks according to it has said the truth and whoever acts according to it is rewarded. In addition, whoever judges by the Holy Qur’an has judged justly, whoever invites to it is guided to the straight path and whoever follows it will never go astray or be miserable.
- One fulfills an obligation and is rewarded for it.
When you obey someone and fulfill their order, you are rewarded for this and in the same way, Allah the Almighty ordered Muslims to recite the Holy Qur’an as much as possible with reverence, act upon its teachings and convey them to others to be with the believers. In addition, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told us that the best people are those who learn the Holy Qur’an and teach it to others.
By reciting the Holy Qur’an, learning its rules, understanding its meaning and the sound interpretation of its verses and abiding by its orders such as the promotion of virtues and the prevention of vices, one carries out an obligation whose reward is gain good deeds as reciting just one letter equals a virtue and increases goodness.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward.”
- Reciting the Holy Qur’an increases comfort and induces relaxation in people’s life.
If you have many problems in your life such as illness, disruption, etc. and you cannot find a way to overcome them, then your only solution is the Holy Qur’an. Reciting the Holy Qur’an is a form of worship that grants our souls inner peace.

It is believed that the sound recitation of the Holy Qur’an is useful in recovery from sickness, promotes good health, and has relaxing effects even if Muslims do not understand the meaning of the verse that is being read. When a reader with a beautiful voice recites the Qur’an loudly, tension may be eased, comfort is increased and relaxation is induced. Furthermore, it may affect the emotions of listener and makes all other things easy for us.
* The Quran will intercede for people on the Day of Judgment.
Everyone wants to gain a higher rank in the paradise and something to intercede for him and his only way for achieving this is the Holy Qur’an. The recitation of the Qur’an is a tradition of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and distinguishes between the believers and the hypocrites.
On the Judgment day, as prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will be the interceder of his nation, the Holy Qur’an will intercede for its readers, protect them from the Hell and grant them a place in the paradise.
The Holy Qur’an will be in favor of those who were reciting it regularly in the earthy life and against those who deserted reciting it.
- The Holy Qur’an is a unique timeless source of learning.
When you want to know any information about anything in any field, you can search in several books, on several websites, etc. and you may or may not find the accurate answer, but what about looking for it in the Qur’an? One can easily find the answer he wants in the Holy Qur’an as Allah the Almighty mentioned in it accurate scientific facts that cannot be contradicted whether in medicine, legislation, mathematics or any other field.
There are several theories conducted by the scientists that proved facts actually exist in the Holy Qur’an. For instance is the theory of the Universe Expansion by Einstein in his theory of Equations. After some studies, Scientists proved that the universe is expanding; a matter that was actually described in details in the Holy Qur’an.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qur’an” And We have built the heaven with might and we continue to expand it indeed.” (51:48)
The above-mentioned evidence shows us that the Qur’an encourages learning and it is a permanent source of knowledge.
