Hajj is one of the cornerstones of Islam, an annual spiritual experience that Muslims commit at least once in their lives to express their faith in Allah and their slavery to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala — Glory to Him, the Blessed One). Let us understand the Hajj rituals that each pilgrim performs during their pilgrimage to Mecca. Hajj al-Ifrad — This essentially refers to performing the Hajj rituals only without the need for a sacrificial animal (hadee) or Qurbani. A prilger who takes this form of Hajj is called Mufrid.Hajj al-QiranThis type of pilgrimage involves passing Hajj and Umrah together while in the state of Ihraam. This form requires a sacrificial animal to complete the rituals. A pilgrim who takes this form of Hayy is called Qaarin.
Hajj Al-Tamatt’u The most common type of pilgrimage from Hajj and a prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged their companions to act. It refers to performing umrah rituals during the Hajj season and then completing the steps towards Hajj between the 8th and the 13th day of Dhu al-Hiyjah. The rituals of umrah and hajj are performed by entering a separate state from ihraam, and a sacrificial animal is required to complete this form of hajj. A pilgrim who takes this form of Hayy is called Muttamatti. Pilgrims can choose to do one of the three Hajj procedures that are easier for them.Hajj Rituals – How to perform Hajj
The acts of faith that all pilgrims perform during their spiritual journey to Saint Kaaba are collectively called hadj rituals lasting five days from the 8th to the 12th day of Dhu al-Hiyjah.
Hajj Preparations
Preparations for Hajj begin on the eighth day of Dhu al-Hijjah when pilgrims intend to make the pilgrimage by wearing ihraam robes. Suppose ihraam of Miqat – The intention of performing Hajj Before pilgrims enter and cross Al Masjid Al Haram (the sacred border of Mecca) and cross to perform Hajj, they must use ihraam to build haram and cross the five different areas of miqats on the border of Haram. Below are the destination options and the relevant miqats for pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for hajj:
• Dhu’l Hulaifah (Abbyar Ali) is for pilgrims arriving for the first time in Saudi Arabia from or through Madina to perform Hajj al-Tamatt’u
• Al-Juhfah (near Rabigh) is for pilgrims who come from Syria or through Syria thought. Morocco or Egypt.
• Qarn-al Manazil (As-Sail al-Kabeer) is for pilgrims coming from Najd or Taif or via Najd or Taif.
• Yalamlam (Sa’adiyah) is for pilgrims from or through India, Pakistan or Yemen.
• Dhat `Iraq is for pilgrims from or across Iraq.
Before leaving their whereabouts and reach the sacred border of Mecca, pilgrims must adopt a state of ihraam, which is the combined sacred act of Niyyah and Talbiyah necessary to carry out Hajj. Niyyah is the innate intention to perform an act of worship, while talbiyah is a special prayer to achieve ihraam.
All pilgrims are required to stick to certain guidelines before entering into the Miqat. To become muhrim (a pilgrim who has reached ihram status), a pilgrim must prepare for ihram by following the following steps as indicated by the Prophet (PBUH):
