What is Islam? What is Islam is a very important question that should be answered for all Muslims and non-Muslims. First of all, life before Islam was very dull and full of bad manners. Allah wanted to warn us and teach all humans how to live in this life in halal (honestly) and win the Jannah afterlife. Those bad days were full of unfairness and crimes such as theft, killing, and adultery. Islam came to change everything into the best.
Surah Al-Ma’idah: “Then is it the judgment of [the time of] ignorance they desire? But who is better than Allah in judgment for a people who are certain [in faith].(50)”
“Islam” is an Arabic word that means a lot; it is peace and also the submission to Allah’s will. Islam is a religion that learns us to worship only one God called Allah. It teaches us that Allah is the creator of the surroundings. This religion was sent through a miracle; the Holy Quran. That great book considers a guide for our lives and the hereafter. The Holy Quran is full of orders, pieces of advice, and scientific information. Islam is built on five basics; Allah is the only God and Muhammed is his messenger, prayer, paying charity, fasting Ramadan, and pilgrimage if you can.
“Islam has been built on five [pillars]: testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the salah (prayer), paying the zakat (obligatory charity), making the hajj (pilgrimage) to the House, and fasting in Ramadan.”Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
Who is Allah in Islam?
Before we know about this great religion, people had to worship many different gods. Some prayed for a certain person like the Pharaoh or the wisest man who existed, and others prayed for some statues made of stones. In our religion, we Must pray and worship the only God, Allah. The Holy Quran has proved among its verses that Allah is the God of the universe. He is the God who revealed to Ibrahim to build the Kaaba, he is the God who lifted the christ to him and he is who protected Moses from the Pharoah. Allah created everything in the universe and the Holy Quran proves that.
Why Islam is the truth?
Surah Al-Ma’idah: “This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islām as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (3)”
There is more than one religion all over the world but Allah said that Islam is the truth. This is proved through some shreds of evidence and also through the miracle sent to us; the Holy Quran:
- The Holy Quran was revealed to the prophet Muhammed who was unlettered so it is impossible to think that he wrote it himself.
- The Quran is full of scientific information that scientists discovered many years later such as the formation of the embryo inside the uterus.
- The preservation of the Quran is amazing; it is exactly the same from 1400 years ago and there are no other different copies of the Quran,
- The Holy Quran is written in 600 pages and about 77 thousand Arabic words. However, there are four million Muslims in the world who memorize it. Not only memorizing the Quran but actually, most of them are non-Arabic speakers.
- Our beloved prophet Muhammed (PBUH) is an important part of this religion. He was a special person; his ethics were charming because he was very kind, very polite, very smart, very patient, very loving, very honest, and very believer. His Sunnah and Hadith also consider guides for Muslims.
When was Islam founded?
Our beloved prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was born in Mecca. He used to go to a cave called Hiraa’ to meditate and think about the creator of the world. Prophet Muhammed was prepared to be the greatest man ever secretly by Allah. One day while his usual prayer, especially on Monday, the 21st of Ramadan (August 10, 610C.E.). The angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared to Muhammed in the cave and ask him to “read”. Our prophet was illiterate so he told the angel that he can’t, but the angel insisted on him and repeated the word three times. Eventually, Jibril recited “Read, ˹O Prophet,˺ in the Name of your Lord Who created” Surah Al-Alaq. This was the first revelation and the first verse; I think it is a hidden message for us to care about studying and reading to get a better future.
